| Do you think racer striped pants are slimming or unflattering? My opinion – both. Depends on which angle your stand! Give it a label if you wish, sports luxe, dressy track pants, but I think there’s something really cool about pants with stripes down the side. Maybe it’s just like with cars, the stripe makes them look like they’d go faster. |

The Embellished Button Up
Pin It Now!

| Perhaps it’s because I’m such a trend victim, but now that the embellished button up shirt has pretty much taken over the world, I can’t remember when the humble shirt didn’t come with skulls, spikes, or big jewels attached. |

The Kimono Jacket
Pin It Now!

A lot of people I’ve met overseas have commented that Australians always dress really casually, with singlet, short short and sandal ensembles being somewhat of a cultural uniform. Do we really have a choice? Summer high temperatures in Australia are always all over the news. The constant challenge (apart from avoiding bush fires) is finding ways to stay cool. While I’m a proponent for the staying inside at all times strategy, when venturing outside in the summer, I’ve found a light jacket like this kimono to be amazingly versatile.

Midweek look: Hips with teeth
Pin It Now!

It’s become too easy to pull on my 10+ year old Doc Martins that are also 10 years out of style, and took the same amount of time to wear in and feel as comfortable as the brand sales pitch claimed they were. My Doc Martins are my longest surviving pair of shoes, both because of its incredible durability and my inexplicable reluctance to throw them away. Perhaps it was the lingering guilt for having conned my parents into buying them for me in my high school years.

End of week look: The summer print dress
Pin It Now!

The tropical print has had a bad run since the 90’s, but thanks to the visionaries at exciting Sydney based label VIPARO, the tropical print is chic and fun again. I love how wild and whimsical this print looks. It’s part island, part jungle, with a flamingo twist. The diaphanous fabric itself is so beautifully light and cool.

End of week look: The tank and the dress
Pin It Now!
I’m some what obsessed with these big cat printed frayed tanks that a vendor sells at the Canberra Fash’n’Treasure. Though I get the feeling you could make one easily yourself, I still like the idea that someone else scouted out the shirt, cut it by hand, and that each one is one of a kind.

Midweek look: Floral x Studs
Pin It Now!

Two trends that are somewhat at odds right now are floral and studs, so I thought it was pretty cool that these shorts from ROMWE incorporates both. I personally think the cross over

End of week look: The ombre shorts
Pin It Now!

I wore: Top – www.nastygal.com • Shorts – Sportsgirl • Bag – Alexander Wang • Boots – Jeffrey Campbell • Hat – French Connection
I think the denim short is probably one of the most difficult things for me to buy – that is if you don’t have a perfectly model figure and would look good in everything. I’ve always had comparatively large thighs so I can’t really do the super short shorts as they just end up looking like a g-string after a while. And low cut shorts are out of the questions unless I intend never to sit down or pick something up off the ground the whole time! For high waisted, it’s impossible to get a good fit because they’re always tight around the butt and way too loose around the waist. (*phew*!)
What’s your most difficult to buy clothing item?

The Blue Dress
Pin It Now!
I wore: Dress c/o OASAP • Necklace – Nasty Gal • Laptop bag worn as clutch – Typo • Heels – Zu Shoes
I kid you not, this was the first time in about 5 years I decided to pin my fringe away from my head. I’ve always thought I had a weird looking forehead and I’m just not used to seeing it! I’m a little bit bored of the bangs though, so I might consider growing them out…
This is the first outfit shot taken with my new Canon EOS 50mm f1.4 lens. It’s so much sharper than the f1.8 lens. Totally worth the upgrade!

September 2012 Outfits Recap
Pin It Now!
I think I’ve said it before, but I really mean it this time – September was the month of colourful legwear. I even tried the pink striped clown pants. I’m not really quite sure whether to call that outfit a success or failure… Here’s the recap of the month!

Midweek outfit – Tiger sweater and sequin shorts
Pin It Now!
When I first moved to Canberra, its fickle weather (boiling one day, freezing the next) really made life difficult for me. But believe it or not, I found a bright side to it - even in the middle of summer, there are days cold enough to pull on a sweater if I felt like it. I never really pack away my winter wardrobe all through the year.
Check out this cute little cat that came to play when I was taking photos! Cats are the best!

Ice Cream T & Harem Pants
Pin It Now!
I wore: Shirt – FELT • Pants – C&A China • Laptop pouch worn as clutch – Typo • Spiked pumps – Zu Shoes
It’s funny how outfits just build themselves sometimes. So I decided it was perfect weather to wear my new candy coloured harem pants that I picked up from China. At the time I was wearing this ice cream T-shirt I bought from FELT ages ago but decided it didn’t go with anything I had, so it just became an around the house shirt. Pulling on the pants, I suddenly realised the two pieces were practically made for each other. So I’ve taken my ice cream T out of retirement.

Galaxy print shorts and mint sweater

ROMWE’s Black Friday Sale is on from tomorrow 21 November! Up to 70% off, from 21st through 26th!
Recently I found out that the popular idea about what space looks like isn’t really what 100% accurate (if we are talking about how it looks to the naked eye). Those brilliantly coloured images of far away galaxies given to us by the Hubble Telescope are actually created by representing the various gases present in those galaxies with primary and secondary colours. So in a way I guess the Hubble Telescope is an artist or perhaps one of the most gifted printmaker of our time! I love how these printed shorts from ROMWE seem to have an inner glow. The mirrored printing also gives a really cool effect.

Pleated Midi dress
Pin It Now!

I wore: Biker Jacket – T by Bettina Liano • Pleated midi dress – C&A • Jeffery Campbell Spiked Lita –www.revolveclothing.com
I think a great basic item should be 1) amazing looking on its own 2) colour and style neutral so it goes with everything, and 3) never lets you down when you don’t know what to wear. That’s why I totally love this simple maxi dress from chain store C&A in China. I love that it’s got a really flattering high waisted and draped design and that it’s easy to pair with just about anything. I’ve ween wearing it with my grungy biker jacket and colourful sweaters pulled over the top. A change of shoes also completely changes the overall look. You know you’re onto a winner when it’s the first thing you reach for every morning.

End of week outfit: Galaxy print vest and denim shirt
Pin It Now!

I wore: Galaxy print top c/o www.romwe.com • Denim shirt and headband – Market in China • Pleather pants – C&A • Brogues – Mimco
I never thought I’d say it, but I think my big chunky platform boots phase is over. I used to feel like an outfit isn’t complete without a pair of killer platforms, and I was all for the bottom heavy look. I used to always choose the big boots over flats, thinking flats only made me look stumpy. While I think there are still some styles that really need a pair of Litas, I’m now rediscovering my brogues and ballet flats. An no, it’s not because of the comfort issue. I’m telling, Litas are so comfortable, you can totally run in them!
Which do you prefer, heels or flats?
Also, can someone explain to me what the deal is with cats and space?

July/August outfits recap
Pin It Now!
July and August for me were all about flowy maxi skirts and colourful legwear. I bought too many pairs of Jeffery Campbell shoes, got obsessed with weaving flower crowns, and fell back in love with charity store thrift shopping. August was also the month that I ticked the Alexander Wang Rocco bag off my wish list (my sights are on Givenchy Nightingale next!). Here are my favourite outfits from July and August!

End of week outfit: Baroque shirt and pleather pants
Pin It Now!

I wore: Hat and Baroque printed Shirt c/o www.romwe.com • Pleather and jersey pants – C&A China • Bag – Oroton • Spiked loafers – Market in China
Here’s my first outfit post with a few things I purchased during my trip. China really isn’t the cheap shopping destination I remember. Even wholesale markets are charging prices comparable to overseas. Surprisingly, I found the best prices in foreign chain stores. These pleather panelled pants from C&A in China reminds me of the inexplicably popular American Apparel disco pants. Personally, I never considered buying a pair of disco pants because I was pretty sure it wouldn’t be flattering for my, shall we say, fulsome thighs. I much prefer the leather look anyway. Has anyone shopped at C&A? Apparently it’s a Dutch chain. I hope they come to Australia!
Baroque is my favourite trend at the moment. I guess it kind of aligns with me of gothic and lolita themes. Will you be wearing baroque this season?
On another note, the filthy UV filter has become completely stuck on my 50mm camera lens, so all my photos have been blurry and slightly out of focus this week. On the bright side, the photos are come out somewhat dream like and whimsical. Does anyone know how to remove a stuck UV Filter?

Midweek outfit – Preppy florals
Pin It Now!

I wore: Floral Shirt c/o www.romwe.com • Bowtie – Fash’n’Treasure • Bag – The Cambridge Satchel Company UK • Pants – General Pants Co. • Nude Pumps – Tony Bianco
Every time I visit China, my relatives tell me funny stories about me as a child. Apparently I was a total tomboy. I hurt myself countless times climbing trees and walls (and falling in wells). My cousin told me that he could never understand why I was always covered in cuts and bruises, when all the other girls my age were clean and proper. I guess even now, my image of myself is not a girly girl. It feels more natural for me to pair a feminine floral blouse with pants and a bow tie and wayfarer glasses then with, for example, a soft skirt and an up-do.
Sale alert! Romwe is having a Buyer’s Pick special offer between 2nd November and 8th November! There will be 30% off items individually picked by Romwe’s fashion team and exclusive Romwe signature items!
