I don’t know if they’ve been able to explain this scientifically yet, but ankles are, let’s face it, totally sexy. For centuries, women have worn decorations around their ankles, and this one is no exception. The ankle strap heel is so simple a concept, but something about this extra touch on a pair of pumps exudes elegance, sexy appeal, and oldschool uptown chic. Whether super thin or chunky thick, buckled or Velcro, we’ll be seeing a lot of the ankle strap this season.
For those of us who have been cosying up in boots over the colder seasons, we could only watch with envy as the ankle strap heel was worn, in all colours, shapes and sizes, on the other side of the world. The D'Orsay heel (a pump with both sides cut out) was practically born for the ankle strap. I love this two tone pump by Marc Fisher, which reminds me of the cult Zara perfect sandal, except with covered toes.
